Uncategorized Mar 05, 2017

Do you ever think, "If I had a easy, quick & tasty meal option that was also healthy I wouldn't hit the fast food drive through?

Then Day 5 in 40 Days of Training Videos is for you.

Having a few secret weapons ready in the fridge is a lifesavor during a busy week.

Today I'm prepping some red peppers to use for dips instead of chips, and some shredded chicken for Cauliflower Rice Bowls tonight and later this week.

Today I'm using chicken broth and some basic seasonings, but I've also used Thai Peanut Dressing and salsa for Mexican bowls.

Do you make Cauliflower Rice Bowls? If so, what do you put in yours.

40 Days of Training Videos - Day 1

Uncategorized Mar 01, 2017

Today is the first day of Lent. While I'm not Catholic, I have observed Lent many times in the past and always feel I've gained some insight as a result.

Past years I have fasted from things such as: sweets, wine, snacking in front of the tv, etc.

I've also tried adding things into my life like: like cleaning out something everyday, or creating something, like a personalized card for 40 special people in my life.

The thing is I never really know what its going to be until Ash Wednesday, when I pray about it and see what inspiration strikes.

Since the first of the year I've felt compelled to share something everyday, with someone, but today it got real with the feeling I should create and share a "live" video everyday for 40 days.

I make a lot of videos, but I always have the ability to edit them, trash them, or just keep them to myself. Now it's getting real. Live is a whole different ball game...no do-overs, cuts, redos, etc.

If anyone asks what I'm giving up this year, it is...

Another reason to eat slower...

Uncategorized Nov 10, 2016

Perhaps you've heard the idea that eating slower gives your stomach a chance to feel full and tells your brain to stop the intake...

...but did you know there may be another reason?

Have you ever heard the term retronasal olfaction? Basically this means while we're eating the aroma of the food travels from the back of the throat through the nasal passages.

Why is this important? Because it increases satiety. The longer we savor our food the more satisfied we feel, even with less food.

Remember the last time you had a cold and you couldn't smell anything? Eating just isn't as appealing. Smelling and tasting go hand in hand.

Could this be one of the reason why some cultures can eat decadent cuisine and remain svelt? Are they more practiced at the art of savoring?

Perhaps this is an invitation for each of us to practice the art of savoring, not only our food, but our relationships, our environment, our moments.

This is my Daily Fitness Habit invitation: Savor more - consume less.

Try...

I lost weight eating Rice Krispie Treats for Dinner

Uncategorized Nov 05, 2016

I have to tell you about a conversation I had in the gym the other day. I'm talking with another trainer about the previous Halloween night.

I told him I had pre-planned what I was having for dinner (Turkey Pumpkin & Wild Rice Soup), but my mother-in-law showed up at the door with a pumpkin head made of Rice Krispie Treats. Yikes!

I can turn away from Halloween candy pretty easily, especially because I don't buy it until a few hours before dark on Halloween day....but this was different. I LOVE homemade Rice Krispie Treats. I dug in quickly, hallowing out his round face and give him some cheek bones. Piece by piece I cannibalized that pumpkin head.

So much for my soup dinner.

We took our daughter trick-or-treating at a friend's house, and feasted on chips, guacolmole, wine, and s'mores cooked over an open fire.

I returned home to find the remenants of a pumpkin head which I swear said, "You might as well finish me off."

So I did.. Yum!

I'll be honest I was a little afraid of the...

How to open a pomegranate?

Uncategorized Oct 17, 2016

You might think of pumpkins when fall and winter hit, but don't forget the ever scrumptous pomegranate. These are juicy little bursts of delight. If you have only thought about buying the pricy seeds already removed from the outer fruit, because you weren't sure how to get them out, fear not...I created a video to help.

My daughter goes through these like candy!

What makes a great workout partner?

exercise motivation Sep 10, 2016

Some people know I wake up early and am eager to workout, but may not know why. Let me introduce you to the world’s best workout partner.

It’s this lady here...

Mary Ann Randall is 75 and going strong. I want to be her when I grow up.

She started as a client of mine almost about 20 years ago. She has been through many a spinning class, Fitball class, TRX HIIT class, and grueling personal training sessions with me - but at some point years ago, she became my workout partner and I LOVE every minute of it.

She has shown me what it means to be a successful workout partner with these attributes:

  • Reliable - She shows up 4 times a week unless she can't get out of her driveway because of snow.
  • Supportive - She is ALWAYS for me. No matter what the topic she's in my corner...ALWAYS!!!
  • Encouraging - She makes me ALWAYS want to show up. NOTHING beats a workout with her (even sleep).
  • Interesting - She is the only one I can workout with 4 days a week and still can't wait to have...
