I lost weight eating Rice Krispie Treats for Dinner

Uncategorized Nov 05, 2016

I have to tell you about a conversation I had in the gym the other day. I'm talking with another trainer about the previous Halloween night.

I told him I had pre-planned what I was having for dinner (Turkey Pumpkin & Wild Rice Soup), but my mother-in-law showed up at the door with a pumpkin head made of Rice Krispie Treats. Yikes!

I can turn away from Halloween candy pretty easily, especially because I don't buy it until a few hours before dark on Halloween day....but this was different. I LOVE homemade Rice Krispie Treats. I dug in quickly, hallowing out his round face and give him some cheek bones. Piece by piece I cannibalized that pumpkin head.

So much for my soup dinner.

We took our daughter trick-or-treating at a friend's house, and feasted on chips, guacolmole, wine, and s'mores cooked over an open fire.

I returned home to find the remenants of a pumpkin head which I swear said, "You might as well finish me off."

So I did.. Yum!

I'll be honest I was a little afraid of the scale the next day.

My husband and I both weigh daily just to keep tabs on what's going on. Our weight charts look like an EKG chart fluxuating by a percentage of pound or so each day.

My husband, the only person who ate worse than me the night before, got on the scale first and declared, "I lost a pound."

I got on the scale and said, "Huh,so did I."

We have this running dialogue that goes something like this.  "That's it! Rice Krispie Treats, wine and chips for dinner from now on! It's the secret to weight loss."

As I'm recounting the evening to my trainer buddy, other people are listening in and commenting, "I want that diet." or "That's the diet for me."

Or they just ask, "How is that possible?"

It's possible because this type of eating is the exception not the rule.

Our bodies are amazing in their ability to heal and recalibrate if we keep our systems and hormones in functioning well.

If our body and it's numerous systems  (endocrine, cirulatory, immune, digestive, etc.) are functioning as intended, a bad day or even a few bad days here and there don't matter. Our body adapts easily, usually trying to get the toxic food out of our bodies quickly.

However, the flip side is also true, if we've screwed up our bodies systems, it takes more than a few days of healthy eating to fix them.

If there is one thing I can leave you with that will help you get or keep your body's system functioning well it is paying attention daily with an app like My Fitness Pal.

It is the single best tool in my fitness toolbox.

Do you track your food daily?  If you do, what have you learned? If you don't, why not?
